Today was the official Swiss National Day (August 1st) - la fête nationale - last night was just the local lead-up. Absolutely nothing was open, so we ventured out into a neighbouring valley or two to catch the scenery and have a swim. A great day to be out driving, no traffic and few people.
This is the house over the road from us dressed up for 01/08 - the Swiss flag is up there with the French and Turkish flags as our all-time favourites. Wouldn't it be nice to have a decent Australian flag without the Union Jack up in the corner?!
This is Lac des Taillères, a natural lake about an hour from us. We drove here through Val de Sagne and Val de la Brévine. Beautiful countryside reminiscent of Marignac where we stayed in 2002 and parts of southern Germany.
Jan emerging from the lac - managing the dreaded rocky bottom well. It was warmish in the water - maybe 20° or 21° - but a little dirty compared to Lac de Neuchâtel. Or was it because of the rock minerals?
Another view of the Lac - we spent the day near centre of the picture. This is the last picture I took before I dropped the camera. Who knows what photos will look like from now on?!
They'll look like this: Jan in the kitchen/dining area. Only problem with the trusty Canon seems to be being unable to close the battery housing completely. Everything else appears to work fine.
