Murten, Avenches and Estavayer-le-Lac

Had a great day today exploring towns on the other side of Lac de Neuchâtel.  Down side is that it was really hot (the car temp guage said it was 32 outside at one stage) and the Peugeot doesn't have air-con (so it was probably even hotter inside), but we survived.

A laneway view in Murten ("Morat" in French) that took my fancy.  Murten was a well preserved mediaeval town on the edge of a lake.  This was a view up a laneway backing onto the ramparts of the town.  Interestingly, it's a German-speaking town while most towns around it are all French-speaking.  Made me feel much more comfortable.  Switzerland is an interesting country - its tiny, but somehow manages to integrate 4 different language groups: German; French; Italian; and Romansch.
Said ramparts - 13th century and still in amazing condition - after some subtle renovation.

Avenches - Roman amphitheatre being set up for (amongst other things) Simply Red's performance next week.  Not a bad gig - apparently takes 12,000 people although I'm not sure where they'd put them all.  You may note my brand new Swiss haircut - one of the best I've had in a while.  Friendly hairdresser is taking us up to see his "bunker" in the hills on Sunday morning - purchased from the Swiss army.
Our picnic spot for the day - sitting in a first century Roman theatre just outside Avenches.  Cool and quiet under the big tree (until the groundsman started mowing nearby).
For Aja - Estaveyer-le-Lac is known for it's frogs, so there are really big frogs hanging in mid-air across streets and such.  Didn't see any real frogs though.
Chateu de Chenaux - an 11th century castle in Estavayer-le-Lac.

Jan on the shores of Lac Neuchâtel just outside of Estavayer-le-Lac.  We had incredible trouble getting to the lake from the town, but eventually made it to a crowded but pleasant little beach.  Not bad for nearly 58 - like the Swiss haircut?
