A Day On The Southern Shore of Lac Neuchâtel

The Lake on which Neuchâtel sits is called, surprisingly, Lac Neuchâtel, and is the largest lake solely within Swiss territory.  There are lots of interesting places just locally, so we decided, as the forecast high was only around 26° today, to have a look at some of them.

Boudry has this lovely chateau which houses it's wine museum.

The main street of Boudry is kind of cute.  Lovely old houses ..........

....... and this incredible fountain outside the church.

This is for Andrew: the quote at the bottom of this says: "Qui ne sait boire,ne sait rien" ("He who doesn't know how to drink doesn't know anything").

Boudry again - fields and vines.

We stopped at Colombier plage to cool off as the temperature hit 29°, and headed for the beach on the lake.  This family of swans (with two batches of cygnets) swam past.

Here's mother swan for Aja :)

Auvernier - a beautiful old wine town - had some lovely houses, but this one on the old wall of the city was my favourite.

Auvernier - again.

It's buskers' week in Neuchâtel, and we ended the day watching various bands playing in the streets of the old town.  These guys took the cake though.  Don't know who they are or where (exactly) they're from - although I suspect it's India. Yes and they're called Jaipur Maharaja Brass Band who've been travelling the world for 4 years. Just as well someone pays attention to details - Jan.  They were astounding.  Full of life and great players.  And talk about dynamic!  The dancer was incredible ended up with 4 glasses holding up a bowl of water while he danced around.  THEN he stood on the mini bed of nails.  All the time with fantastic music.  The other bands were OK.

At this stage he has 4 glasses under the bowl of water.  Just didn't have a wide enough angle lens to catch it.

These two drummers drove the whole thing and were just having such fun.  Every time they got the rhythm PERFECT (which was often) they got these big smiles on their faces.  LOVED this!

Here's a brief video:
